2008 Wine Tour to Germany

Day 1, Wednesday, 

2nd July

Arrival of the groups A and B on flight CX285 at Frankfurt Airport Drove to Rheingau Region, visited:

  • Weinbaudomäne Schloss Johannisberg and "G.H. von Mumm"

  • Wine tasting and lunch at the winery Schloss Johannisberg

  • Weingut Domdechant Werner, Wine tasting and welcome dinner with Dr. Franz W. Michel

Day 2, Thursday, 3rd July


Departure from Hotel Schwan Drove to next town name Hattenheim, through this place we visited:

The Monastery Kloster Eberbach, built between 12th and 14th centuries.

Down the hill we visited Domaine Steinberg, Hessische Staatsweingüter (State owned) Kloster Eberbach; A huge modern facility at Kloster Eberbach.

Back to the Monastery Kloster Eberbach and visit the historical "Cabinetkeller" in the deep basement of this monastery, this Cellar is a real treasure of Rheingau, hundred and thousand of bottles of wine are being stored there. The oldest wine stored there is a wine from the year of 1706. Took the interesting Car ferry near the Geshinhem and crossed the river of Rhine and Drove to Cochem, in Mosel Region

With a guided tour we visited the Burg Cochem; Cochem Castle was built in 1020. Drove through the mountains and countryside in a short cut into Ediger- Eller of Mosel. Visit Weingut Oster, Michael Oster, owners of vineyard Bremmer Calmont, the steepest vineyard in Europe. He is the 34th generation in wine business. The family also has a unique “wine and liquor” shop.

Stayed in the guest house of weingut Oster.

Day 3, Friday, 4th July


Drove to Wachenheim , region of Pfalz

Visited Weingut J.L. Wolf (Where Dr. Loosen also showed his support),

Welcome and wine tasting guided by Dr. Ernst F. Loosen

Lunch at the winery Drove back to Bernkastel-Kues, Mosel region,

Visited Weingut S.A. Prüm in Bernkastel-Kues

Wine tasting and Dinner with Mr. Prüm Back to Ediger Eller late, jointed the out-door supper at the peak of Neefer Rosenberg with Michael Oster, Peter Oster and their friends.

Day 4, Saturday, 5th July


Some Sightseeing in the morning. Visit and Lunch at the Brauhaus Kloster Machern

Drove to Bernkastel-Kues

Visited the legendary Doctor’s wine outlet and this one of the world’s most famous towns.

Visited Winery Dr. Loosen, in Bernkastel-Kues. Guided wine tasting of Dr. Loosen’s 2007 vinetage at Dr. Loosen’s basement. Drove 266 km straight to OBERNAI, France, the Northern end of Alsace wine road, Region of Alsace in France. Stayed in hotel:

LES JARDINS D’ADALRIC.Rue du Maréchal Koenig, 67210 OBERNAI.

Dinner in an Italian restaurant

Day 5, Sunday, 6th July


Visited Mr. Marc Seilly, Domaine SEILLY in OBERNAI south of Strasbourg, Lunch with the family of Mr. Seilly, all three generations at the winery, his son Sean Seilly

Some sightseeing of the town and the look out at the peak.

Visited the world-known Odilienberg, for Saint Odilia, at the Mont St Odile, Natzweiler-Struthof

Following the wine road of Alsace to the south end. Drove to Ingersheim, near Colmar, the center of wine making of Alsace.

Visited the Vins d'Alsace Vincent and René Fleith Eschard, a organic winery


Overnight

Hotel du Faude

A local resort hotel located in the middle of a forest full of pine trees. Equipped with very good facilities and many nice decorated restaurants inside. Huge collection of fine French wines from all over the place can be see in their wine cellar.

It was a great Alsatian dinner with the couple Mr. and Mrs Fleith and we all enjoyed being entertained by Mrs Faude the friendly hostess; owner of the hotel and her dog Jedi.

Day 6, Monday, 7th July


Before checking out of the hotel, we visited Gilbert Miclo; one of the best-known Distilleries in France, and secondly, the Munster Cheese ( A.O.C) factory.

Before leaving the French Wine Road and France, we visited the Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle, a huge defensive castle on top of a hill, built on huge rocks.

In the afternoon drove to Hainfeld, region of Pflaz. Germany.


Overnight

Stayed at the Weinhotel am Schloßberg. (Hotel) in Burrweiler in the middle of some vineyards.

Hainfled is the mid-point of the German wine road.

Visited Weingut Karl-Ludwig Scherr at Hainfled.

Dinner with wine maker Mr. A. Scherr

Day 7, Tuesday, 8th July


Visited Weingut Bassermann-Jordan at Deidesheim

Visit Weingut Gerhard Klein at Hainfeld.

Dinner with wine maker Mr. Peter Klein

Day 8, Wednesday,

 9th July


Drove back to Air-port Frnakfurt. The Wine Tour ended at Frankfurt Airport.
